Licensing & Activation

Everything about getting Veska Console licensed: the free trial, activating a purchased key, using it on more than one machine, and activating a computer that has no internet connection.

All of this lives in one place in the app — Help → Licence… — which shows your current status, your tier and seat usage, and every action below.

The free trial

Veska Console runs as a 14-day free trial with no card required. Download and install it (see Installation), open it, and the trial starts automatically. You can check how many days remain any time under Help → Licence….

When you're ready, buy a licence — see Pricing & licensing — and activate the key you receive by email (below). You can activate at any point during or after the trial; there is no need to reinstall.

Tiers and seats

Seats (activations)122

A seat is one activated machine. Standard and Pro both let you run Veska Console on two machines at once (for example a studio desktop and a laptop). Moving from Standard to Pro is available any time for the price difference. Your licence is perpetual within a major version.

Activating with a licence key (online)

The normal path, on any machine with an internet connection:

  1. Open Help → Licence….
  2. Paste your key into the Licence key field — it looks like VESKA-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX.
  3. Click Activate.

The status updates to show your tier (e.g. Licensed: Pro), the key field locks, and Deactivate this machine becomes available. That's it — the licence is now tied to this machine's seat.

If you see "All seats in use", you've activated the maximum number of machines for your tier. Free a seat by deactivating one of them (below), then activate here.

Using more than one machine, and freeing a seat

Each activation uses one seat. To move your licence to a different machine, or if you've hit the seat limit:

If the machine has no internet access, use the offline deactivation flow below to free its seat. If a machine is lost or wiped before you could deactivate it, contact support and we can free the seat for you.

Offline activation (air-gapped machines)

If the machine running Veska Console has no internet access, you can still activate it using a second device (phone, laptop, anything with a browser). The offline machine never needs to go online.

  1. On the offline machine: open Help → Licence…, enter your licence key, and click Export request… under Advanced. Save the .vskreq file (e.g. to a USB stick).
  2. On any online device: go to doug.lon.dev/veska/activate, upload the .vskreq file, and download the signed response file it gives you back.
  3. Back on the offline machine: open Help → Licence… again and click Import response…. Choose the response file.

Veska Console is now licensed with a machine-bound lease — it does not need to check in with the server. The panel locks down to the licensed view, just like an online activation.

Renewing an offline lease

An offline lease is tied to that one machine. When you want to refresh it, open Help → Licence… and click Renew offline licence… — this re-opens the key field and the Export/Import buttons so you can repeat the export → redeem → import steps above.

Deactivating an offline machine (freeing the seat)

To free the seat used by an offline machine — for example before reinstalling or retiring it — open Help → Licence… and click Deactivate this machine. Veska saves a small deactivation request file (.vskdreq) and immediately deactivates this computer. Take that file to any online device, redeem it at doug.lon.dev/veska/activate, and your account seat is freed for another machine.

Because the machine is offline, it is deactivated the moment you export the request — there is nothing else to do on it, and nothing to import back. If you change your mind before redeeming the file, you can simply re-activate the machine again.

Keeping Veska Console up to date

Veska Console can check for a newer version under Help → Check for updates…. When an update is available it points you to the download; when you're on the latest version it says so. This uses your internet connection — on an offline machine, download new versions manually from the downloads page.

Finding your licence details (for support)

The Help → Licence… dialog shows a licence ID and a key prefix (a short, safe part of your key). If you ever contact support, quote these — they let us find your licence without you sharing the full key. Right-click the field to copy.
